Best subreddits for indie game developers
For indie games the core set is r/IndieDev and r/gamedev for peers, r/IndieGaming and r/indiegames for players, and r/playmygame and r/DestroyMyGame for structured feedback. Genre subreddits (your game's genre has one) usually convert best of all.
Game communities are friendlier to showing your work than most of Reddit, but each has specific screenshot-day and devlog conventions. Post on the right day in the right flair and the same content performs 10x.
The communities
| Subreddit | Members | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| r/IndieDev | 429k | Developer peers. Devlogs, art drops, and honest postmortems. Strong feedback culture. |
| r/gamedev | 2M | The craft community. Technical and process content; promotion belongs in the designated threads. |
| r/IndieGaming | 512k | Players who seek out indie titles. Trailers and GIFs that show real gameplay work here. |
| r/indiegames | 326k | Player-facing showcase room. Polish matters. Lead with your best 10 seconds. |
| r/playmygame | 137k | Structured playtesting: post your build, play others' builds. Reciprocity is the rule. |
| r/DestroyMyGame | 62k | Brutal, useful feedback on trailers and builds. Go here before launch, not after. |
